Oracle Database Engineer

Seeking qualified individual who will be responsible for Oracle Database installation, deployment, configuration, integration, and maintenance for the EAS IV and PHIMT applications. The Oracle Database Engineer needs to design and create systems and technical guides and be able to suggest and / or follow technical decisions for complex information systems. Performs engineering studies, research, and write ups for Oracle Database maintenance and troubleshooting.

Be able to troubleshoot complex issues with creativity and stamina. Be available for after-hours support as needed, to ensure high availability for Production Servers.

Primary Qualifications/Skills:

  • Possess expert knowledge of the Oracle Database version 12c on AIX, including GRID and RAC
  • Possess knowledge of Oracle WebLogic
  • Requires competence in all phases of the life cycle, systems analysis techniques, concepts and methods
  • Requires knowledge of hardware and management practices
  • Comfortable with various trace and troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, Fiddler
    Requires 6+ years of technical experience which applies to software, engineering and object oriented technologies

Specific Duties:

  • Perform Oracle Database maintenance including:
    • Create and run SQL scripts to perform periodic maintenance
    • Perform Information RMF Assurance Patching and STIG checklist review
    • Perform Quarterly CPU update patching
    • Understands Oracle GRID and RAC
    • Performs data modeling, logical and physical database design
    • Monitor and maintain Oracle databases to ensure performance, availability, and security
    • Plans, executes, and maintains database capacity, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery plans
    • Manage database policies and procedures
    • Configure and manage backups using database-specific backup technologies
    • Set up, configure and maintain standby databases
  • Writes Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Product Insertion Guides, and Configuration Recommendation white papers
  • Create processes, templates, and tools to ensure consistent application, evaluation, and use of architecture best practices
  • Trouble-shoots production systems and should be able to perform/write up Root Cause Analysis of complex issues
  • Provides guidance in performance tuning of Oracle Databases
  • Work in coordination with other Engineers to lead the Production support of applications in an ITIL-centric environment
  • Writes specifications, how-to documentation, test plans, test reports and best-practices
  • Identifies and consults with internal technical resources to produce strategic designs
  • Provides operational support for application systems
  • Monitors application to ensure systems are meeting ongoing business needs
  • Troubleshoots issues
  • Provides support on users help desk issues at a T3 level
  • Possesses effective writing and communication skills
  • Performs weekend server maintenance
